How to Create A Delicious Meat Pie

Who says pie has to be sweet? Pie can be anything, and for the longest time, people have been making meat pie. This dish is loaded with ground meat, vegetables, and gravy. It can be customized into anything that you want it to be. But one thing’s for sure: a good meat pie will definitely warm you up. Here’s an easy recipe on how to make a meat pie.

Make the dough

Start with the pie crust by mixing one cup and a quarter of flour and a quarter of a teaspoon of salt into a large bowl. Add chunks of butter or shortening. Use a food processor to integrate the ingredients altogether. Add a few tablespoons of cold water to form a chunky dough.

Use your hands to massage the mixture into one huge ball. Afterwards, place the ball on a flat and clean surface. Add flour to the surface so as to prevent the dough from sticking. Take a rolling pin and roll the dough into a flat crust. Dust the pin with floor as necessary.

Here is the most important part of your meat pie – the meat. Use a large skillet heated at a medium flame. Add two cups of ground beef and a half cup of chopped onions. You can also add some thyme, garlic, and salt, as desired. Other seasonings include cinnamon or nutmeg.

After a while, discard the excess grease by tilting your pan to the side and pouring the liquid into a sink. Add beef broth, carrots, peas, and potatoes. Cook thoroughly. If your pie filing is runny, you can thicken it by adding some cornstarch.

Preheat your oven at 350 degrees. Set your flat dough over the plate to create a crust. Cut away the excess areas of dough. Then, fill in the crust with the filling. Make it leveled. Avoid overfilling your pie.

Lastly, cover your pie with another sheet of dough. Cut off the excess on the edges. Crimp together the edges of the dough to seal in the filling. Slit a few openings on the lid to allow the steam to exit through it. You can also brush the top of the crust with an egg or some melted butter. This shall prevent the lid from cracking and to help it stay moist.

Pop the pie into the oven and let it bake for 45 minutes. You’ll know it’s ready when the crust turns into a golden-brown shade.
